Notes

THE MARINE CRUISE
These cruises started approximately 18 years ago when we realized what immense potential this 100km² bay has to offer for nature lovers. The lagoon is well protected by a sandbank, which stops all big waves from entering the bay. The calm water of Walvis Bay allows tours almost every day.

Laramon Tours has three catamarans that offer lots of space with comfort and stability. Our 70% loading policy allows people to move around and enjoy the space. Our roll-up windows also close 70% of the deck space to protect our guests from wind and the little bit of spray that comes from strong winds. All boats come with onboard toilets. The boats depart 9h00 from our private jetty in the Walvis Bay yacht club area and return approx. 12h30.

The second thing we do in the morning is to have a “Namibian coffee” (sherry) to start off and warm the blood a little.

We are constantly in radio contact with the other boats in the bay to ensure we don’t miss out on anything to see. Our routes change daily, to follow the sea life that moves around the bay.

In the bay there is always a lot of old boats and container vessels, sometimes oil rigs from other countries that come in for services. If the seals and dolphins are scarce, we extend our tours to the fishing factories and oyster farms for the guests’ entertainment. Walvis Bay offers an abundance of sea and birdlife.

From August to April the beaches are full of flamingos, but throughout the year there are lots of other birds, such as pelicans, cormorant, seagulls, terns and many more. Pelicans and seagulls fly alongside the boats which provide opportunities for beautiful photos.
In the Namibian waters, we have the Bottlenose dolphin which roams the coastline in search of food. We have a 50% chance of finding them in the bay.

Around Pelican Point, which is the end of the sandbank, we find a smaller dolphin called the Benguela dolphin almost every day.

On the sandbank is a very large colony of Cape Fur seals. Over the years we have made friends with some of them and they sometimes come and visit us on the boats for a snack.

July to October is the migrating time for Humpback and Southern Right whales, of which we have approx. 100 sightings during this time.

From December to April the temperature of our water goes from the normal 13°C to 20°C, this is when we find the Sunfish (Mola Mola) and leatherback turtles in the bay area.
To round off our tour, we serve snacks, fresh Namibian oysters, sparkling wine and soft drinks on the boats.
